The end in Cape Town

Ray Hewlett left East Africa in 1960, to live in South Africa with his daughter (my only, older sister) first in Harrismith, OFS, and then in Noordhoek outside Cape Town (fig 18). He was content in his old age, filled with memories, and I was fortunate to be able to see him often in those years and to re-live his life in all the photographs He died in 1976. His Land Rover, the first long wheel-base, luxury model to be imported into Tanganyika in 1954 for the Park Warden, is still in my possession, a constant reminder of my father (fig 19).
